Awards & Social Recognition:
G. S.
Parkhe Industrial Merit Awards (Since 1947)

These awards were instituted in memory of G. S. Parkhe (M.S.
Parkhe's younger brother), who was an innovative entrepreneur but
died at a young age of 25 years. It aims at encouraging
entrepreneurs who have introduced their products in the market.
This Award scheme was constituted in the year of 1947 (The year of
Indian Independence) and has been a pioneering effort in the country
and has earned considerable recognition. The Mahratta Chamber of
Commerce, Industries and Agriculture has been distributing the Parkhe
Industrial Merit Awards for the last almost 6 decades.
THE SCHEME:
The awards are given to SSI entrepreneurs from
Maharashtra as an encouragement for their new or innovative products, design / process or import substitute items developed by
them. Taking into consideration of growing importance of service sector, it
has recently (2004) been decided by the selection committee, to add innovative
services to the criteria. During the last 60 years more than 500 entrepreneurs have been received this award for their innovative
products of various types.
THE SELECTION PROCESS:
A panel of judges consisting of 10 members comprises the selection
panel. It includes experts from various disciplines such as mechanical / electrical
engineering, electronics, chemicals etc. as well as an expert who
helps in evaluating quality and innovativeness of services. This
panel evaluates the
products and services and their technical and commercial aspects as
well as the entrepreneurial skill and ability of the applicant.
Commercial success of that product is also taken into account in the
selection process.
The process involves screening the applications, interviewing the
entrepreneurs and product demonstration, before the Selection
Committee.
MAHRATTA CHAMBER:

Adarsha
Mata Puraskar (Since 1976)
The Adarsha Mata Puraskar (Award) is given by the Matoshri Maisaheb
Parkhe Memorial Trust in the month of December of every year.
THE BACKGROUND:
When the head of the family, who had occupied the highest position
like the Diwan or the Chief Justice in the then Indian Princely
states, passed away prematurely, the traditionally trained housewife
rose to the occasion and shouldered the onerous responsibility of
bringing up her children in a novel way and thus fulfill the
unfinished desire of her husband of imparting vocational guidance
and support for career development. This she did by starting a home
industry and gradually handed the responsibility to her teenager
sons who were still students. This is the story of Matoshri Maisaheb
Parkhe who was a woman of surprising foresight and conviction for
her times.
"Adarsha" means Ideal and "Mata" means Mother in Marathi.
The Adarsha Mata Puraskar was instituted with this background, a
feeling of indebtedness and express gratitude towards such women
with great conviction and who have strived hard under adverse
conditions to shoulder the responsibility of the family. To make her
children happy and successful in life and ultimately good and
responsible citizens of the society. It aims to recognize their
enormous sacrifice, conviction and to thank them.
THE SCHEME:
On 6th of December of every year the Adarsha Mata Puraskar
felicitation program is held. The felicitation includes and
certificate of honour, a memento and a cash portion. The life sketch
of the Awardee Mother is presented to the audience and willing
family members also speak at the occasion. It is a short and brief
function but the press has given it considerable importance and
coverage over the years. It is our humble effort to encourage,
recognize, felicitate such good elements in society.
THE SELECTION PROCESS:
Every mother is
Ideal and there cannot be a distinction. Mother's day is celebrated
world-over to thank and express one's gratitude towards mothers.
Hence the selection process is a very difficult task indeed.
Applications are received not in a specific format but usually in
form of the life sketch of the person. Widowed women or women who
have had to struggle hard to look after their family and shouldered
responsibility and have fought adverse situations. And with their
struggle and fighting spirit, they have nurtured families and crafted
their children to become educated, well-placed and responsible members in society.
THE BELIEF:
The Parkhe Pariwar believes that such efforts and recognition, will
help more in creating a better society to live. Though we can felicitate, recognize and thank
only few of such great mothers but
we understand and are happy that more and more people and
institutions worldwide have take up this cause. It is a privilege to know that our message has been taken up well by
the society.
